ETIAS – Do I need a travel authorisation to visit Europe?

By |2026-10-02T14:43:48+00:00October 2, 2026|

The EU's ETIAS (European Travel Information and Authorisation System) is not yet in operation, and no ETIAS applications are currently being accepted. The EU has removed the late-2026 launch target from its official website, and a launch in 2026 is now considered unfeasible. Scam warning: any website offering to submit an ETIAS application for you today is not official — treat such offers as fraudulent. When ETIAS does launch, it will be a pre-travel authorisation for visa-exempt travellers only. It does not replace a Schengen visa: if your nationality requires a visa for Europe, you must still apply through the normal embassy or VFS/TLS process. We will update this notice as soon as the EU announces an official launch date.

Portugal

Q1: Portugal visa processing time? A1: Usually 10-15 working days, though it can extend during summer months when Portugal sees heavy tourist demand. Q2: I'm considering the Golden Visa; is that the same process? A2: No, that's a completely different, longer-term residency route. We handle standard Schengen tourist, business, family, and transit visas, not the Golden Visa investment programme. Q3: What if I'm staying with family in Portugal? A3: You'll need an invitation letter from them along with proof of their address and residency status, instead of a hotel booking. Q4: Do retirees need different documents? A4: Pension statements work in place of employment letters. Everything else on the checklist stays the same. Q5: How do I know if I need a visa for Portugal at all? A5: It depends on your nationality and passport. If you're a UK citizen travelling for tourism under 90 days, you currently don't need a visa, this service is mainly for other nationalities applying through the UK. We can confirm [...]

Spain

Q1: Spain visa timeline from the UK? A1: Generally 10-15 working days, though Spain's consulate can take longer during peak season, roughly June through September. Q2: I'm going for a wedding or family event, does that change anything? A2: It just means we include an invitation letter from your host and possibly proof of the event itself. Otherwise the core documents stay the same. Q3: How much money do I need to show in my account? A3: There's no fixed number published by the consulate, but they want to see enough to cover your stay comfortably, roughly £50-70 per day is a reasonable guide, plus a stable balance history. Q4: Can students apply the same way as everyone else? A4: Mostly yes, but we swap employment proof for university enrollment and add a sponsor letter if a parent or guardian is covering costs. Q5: What if my passport has less than 6 months validity? A5: You'll need to renew it first. Schengen rules require at least [...]

Italy

By |2026-07-20T16:31:49+00:00July 20, 2026||

Q1: How long for an Italy visa to come through? A1: Around 10-15 working days is typical, but Italy is one of the busiest Schengen destinations, so during summer and around major holidays, appointment slots get booked out weeks in advance. Q2: My trip includes multiple countries, do I still apply through Italy? A2: If Italy is where you're spending the most nights, or it's your main entry point, yes, that's usually the right country to apply through under Schengen rules. We can confirm this based on your actual itinerary. Q3: What income proof is needed? A3: Recent payslips, an employment letter, and 3 months of bank statements typically cover it. If you're a student, we use university enrollment plus a sponsor's financials instead. Q4: Do I need a return flight booked before applying? A4: You need a flight reservation, not necessarily a paid ticket. We help arrange a reservation that satisfies the consulate without you having to pay for flights before your visa is approved. [...]

Germany

By |2026-07-20T16:31:22+00:00July 20, 2026||

Q1: Germany visa processing time, what's realistic? A1: Typically 10-15 working days for straightforward tourist applications. Business visas can sometimes move faster if you have a solid invitation letter from the German company. Q2: I'm self-employed, is that a problem for the application? A2: It's not a problem, but it does need more documentation. We'll ask for things like your business registration, recent tax returns, and a letter explaining your travel purpose. It takes a bit more prep but it's manageable. Q3: Does travel insurance need to be German specifically? A3: No, it needs to cover the whole Schengen area with at least €30,000 medical coverage. It doesn't matter which country issues the policy as long as it meets that requirement. Q4: What if I've been refused a Schengen visa before, does that affect a Germany application? A4: It can come up during review, so we ask about previous refusals upfront. If there was one, we look at what likely caused it and adjust the new [...]

France

By |2026-07-20T16:30:48+00:00July 20, 2026||

Q1: How long does a France visa take to process? A1: Usually 10-15 working days once your appointment happens. Paris and other major cities get heavy demand, though, so during summer months and around Christmas, book your appointment slot as early as 4-6 weeks before you plan to travel. Q2: What documents come up as problems most often? A2: Bank statements, honestly. French consulates want to see a consistent balance over the last 3 months, not just a lump sum deposited right before applying. We check this with clients upfront so there's no surprise at the appointment stage. Q3: Do I need a hotel booking before applying, or can I book after approval? A3: You need proof of accommodation for the application itself, whether that's a hotel booking or an invitation letter from someone you're staying with. We can guide you on getting a free-cancellation hotel booking if you don't want to commit to paid accommodation before your visa is confirmed. Q4: Can you help with [...]

Austria Faqs

By |2026-07-20T16:25:59+00:00July 20, 2026||

Q1: How long does it actually take to get an Austria visa from the UK? A1: Most of our clients get their decision within 10-15 working days after their embassy appointment. That said, June to September gets busy — appointment slots fill up fast and processing can stretch closer to 3-4 weeks. If you're travelling in summer, book your appointment as early as you can rather than waiting. Q2: Insurance — do I really need it, or is that just paperwork? A2: It's non-negotiable, unfortunately. Austrian consulates check this closely — your policy needs to cover at least €30,000 in medical costs and be valid across the whole Schengen area, not just Austria. We usually flag this early because it's one of the most common reasons applications get sent back for correction. Q3: What's actually in the document pile I need to prepare? A3: Passport (with at least 2 blank pages and 6 months validity left), recent bank statements, a hotel booking or invitation letter if [...]
